So while watching Season 10 of Project Runway I came across this designer whose last name was Budhu. I went to high school with a guy whose name was Budhu. When I took a good look at his face he could have passed for a Trinidadian or a Guyanese. So of course I hopped right on to google and searched for him. Lo and behold, he was a Guyanese and I was bouncing off the wall. But then why am I only now finding this out? So then I’m asking questions like why weren’t there watch parties in Guyana for him like there were in Trinidad for the Season 9 winner Anya Ayoung-Chee. Come on Guyana!
Anyways, I liked what he did as his garments all had folded elements to them. (Note I either like structured garments or flowly garments.) Sadly, this is why he was kicked off, because he essentially did the same thing for every single challenge not showing variety and I understand why the judges made the decision that they did.
His piece in the unconventional materials challenge was definitely one of my favorites in this challenge for this season!
Would you believe that this dress is made from candy?!
He actually has a line of his own called “Gavaskar” that shows his amazing tailoring capabilities in the pieces in the line.

As you can see from those photos, he is very big on a folded technique. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Understandably, the judges wanted to see that he had variety but this technique is his thing and he’s managed to produce a line doing it. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and received the designer of the year award when he graduated. In 2013, he was honored by the Fashion Group International as one of the up and coming rising stars.
