Rose Gold Criss Cross Mules

I saw a pair of rose gold criss cross mules a few months ago and I wanted them. I felt like my closet was incomplete without a pair. They are a retro style with a somewhat modern color tone and I went in search of a pair that best fit me. Can you imagine that I spent hours researching a specific style of shoe in a just as specific color? But, now that I’ve done all of that, here are a few finds.

Spring 2019 Couture

The Spring 2019 Couture show ended not so long ago and I would be lying if I didn’t admit to you that a few of the pieces I saw gracing runways didn’t take my breath away.

First, let’s understand what exactly haute couture is…
according to BOF

To the normal person this means really high end fashion that carries a really high price. It is garments made out of top notch fabrics that are embellished to the heavens by designers that belong to the group of exclusive haute couture design houses. The garments are tailored and fitted to their specific clients. Sometimes they are one of a kind or very few are made, usually all by hand. If you look at Project Runway, the couture challenge always has the wackiest designs or garments that are most out there and look a lot like they should be on display on pedestals in the museum because they are works of art.

Now that we have that all covered, here are a few of my favorite pieces that walked the runways in Paris in this year’s haute couture showing.

It’s 2019 and I am starting the year off by sharing 19 facts you may not have known about me! I started writing more personal posts within the last year and this one may be one of the most personal yet.

  1. I am the youngest of 4 children. I have two sisters and a brother and the closest is more than 5 years older than me.
  2. I have a Master of Architecture. I knew I would have to get a masters degree before I even started college because both of my sisters had set the bar high with theirs.
  3. I couldn’t make my mind up about going to school for architecture, interior design, or fashion. I decided to go to school for architecture because it was explained to me that I would be better able to switch design disciplines once I graduated had I done architecture but I couldn’t practice architecture without the architecture degree.
  4. I went to Catholic school for 11 years. Today, I consider myself an atheist and go to church once a year – on Christmas eve – for the family tradition.
  5. Occasionally Easter weekend falls very close to my birthday and it is one of my favorite holidays because of childhood memories.
  6. I have a (somewhat irrational) fear of fire. When I was a toddler in NYC with my mom we saw a high rise on fire and people who were on fire were jumping out of the building. I have never lit a flame myself.
  7. I used to have a curly faux-hawk. The haircut was inspired by Anya Ayoung-Chee after watching her win Project Runway.
  8. I bit my fingernails as a child. As an adult I would be able to stop for months on end until I got anxious and would gnaw my fingernails off again. Now that I’ve found a nail tech that I like I’ve been able to “cure” myself.
  9. I’ve worn glasses since I was 8 and contacts since I was 14.
  10. I feel very strongly about abortion. I think that abortions should not be governed by law and feel that women should have the right to choose.  However, I do not think abortions should be used as a form of contraception.
  11. I have seen every episode of Friends at least four times, Sex and the City at least three times, and Gossip Girl at least twice.
  12. I started taking better care of my skin about two years ago with the idea that the less blemishes I had then the less corrective work/effort I had to make while doing my make-up in the mornings. A lot of people say that facial mappings do not work but it seems to have worked for me – for example, whenever I eat cheese I break out in between my eyebrows.
  13. I am highly irritated by people who have the idea that all women are supposed to have kids. I wish that people would get out of these antiquated ideas now that we are in the 21st century. I think people (women especially) should stop asking women when they’ll have kids or telling them that children are god’s blessings or some other equally ridiculous response to guilt trip them.
  14. I am a huge fan of Asian cuisine. I can’t get enough of pho, banh mis, or gourmet ramen.
  15. Lately, I’ve been on a ceviche kick.
  16. I didn’t like to eat rice and bread as a child. Now I am not a fan of meat – I don’t like the texture and occasionally the smell. I was vegetarian for about two years but pork is my weakness.
  17. I told myself that if I didn’t go to school for design then I would have flown airplanes but I get nauseous in little planes and think it would be quite impossible to fly and vomit at the same time.
  18. I broke my toe in the middle of the night and went back to sleep in pain only to wake up to a huge, dark purple toe the next morning.
  19. My dentist calls me a hypochondriac because I will go to her for the slightest toothache. She even stopped charging me a consultation fee because she would see me an often.
